Emergency belly landing in the lake, west off Hindeloopen.

.
Came back damaged from Hannover. Over Frisian Island Texel hit by Flak again. There was no chance getting accross the North Sea to England, so the pilot turned back and set a course east to get back to the mainland. Over Lake IJsselmeer (Old Zuyder Sea) they had to make a belly landing on the water at night. It succeeded, but co-pilot Sgt. Henry Barton got stuck with his foot in the aircraft and sank with the plane. The others were rescued by a fishing boat and became POW.

The Germans recovered the wreck and Sgt. Barton with help of a civilian barge with crane and unloaded the wreckage in the harbour of nearby Hindeloopen.

Sgt. Barton was buried in Leeuwarden on the Northern Cemetery.
